2013 Back to School with a Healthy Sm...
Description
Did you know the most common disease among Oklahoma school children is tooth decay?
In fact, cavities affect 50% of first graders, 71% of third graders and 80 percent of 17-year-olds.
Left untreated, dental problems lead to difficulties eating, sleeping and concentrating in school. Ultimately, children’s health, growth and achievement in the classroom are all impacted by their dental health.
Over 51 million school hours are lost each year due to dental-related problems in the U.S. alone.
That's why On the Cusp Pediatric Dentistry is joining in the fight against dental disease in Oklahoma by supporting a new state-wide effort called “Back to School with a Healthy Smile”.
This is a one-day event where over 100 Oklahoma dentists will unite for the first time and provide free dental screenings at their offices for elementary-aged children, just weeks before they go back to school.
“As a pediatric dentist, this program is near and dear to my heart," says Dr. Ryan Roberts. "We see the effects of poor oral health on our kids first-hand, every day. So we're excited about helping children start the school year off on the right track."
The goal is not only to help parents understand their child's current dental health, but also help boost academic performance in the classroom.
The free screenings are being provided Wednesday, July 31st at On The Cusp Pediatric Dentistry located at 8222 E 103rd, ste 133, Tulsa Ok 74133. Call 918.970.4944 to schedule your child's visit. Screenings are for ages 3 to 10.
You do not need to be a current patient to make an appointment.
In addition, all children screened will receive a free admission ticket to the Oklahoma Aquarium.
Please help us spread the word among your friends, family and neighbors, so we can reach as many kids as possible and make a positive impact in our state's classrooms.
